Wargaming has released World of Tanks: HEAT, a standalone spin‑off that shifts the classic tank‑versus‑tank formula toward a more confrontational, action‑focused experience. The game runs on a new proprietary engine and supports full cross‑platform play on PC (including Steam Deck and Nvidia GeForce Now), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players choose from unique "Agents" and customize tanks, blending 70 % real‑world engineering with 30 % speculative design, and the gameplay leans toward a hero‑shooter style rather than the traditional stalk‑and‑shoot approach.
Development spanned over three years, during which the team built the engine to enable rapid iteration and multi‑platform deployment. By separating HEAT from the original World of Tanks, developers gained freedom to experiment with new systems, focus on three pillars—impactful armored combat, human‑machine synergy, and team supremacy—and avoid the constraints of the historic franchise. The original World of Tanks will continue receiving updates, but HEAT operates as its own ecosystem with a distinct Battle Pass and progression roadmap.
At launch, HEAT includes PvE playlists that let players team up against AI bots without economic penalties, mirroring the PvP experience. Wargaming says future DLC, collaborations and content expansions will build on HEAT's identity while keeping the classic title alive for its dedicated community.
