Saber Interactive's CEO, Matthew Karch, has apologized to writer Stella Sacco for his hurtful comments about her employment and capabilities. However, Karch also took a swipe at Portal writer Chet Faliszek, who had publicly criticized Karch's actions.
The controversy began when Sacco claimed she was fired from working on Saber's game, Rideshare Stimulator, and her workload was taken over by an AI tool. Karch had previously belittled Sacco's competency and stated he would have been happy to replace her with AI.
Karch's apology to Sacco seemed to be a step towards resolving the issue, but his subsequent criticism of Faliszek has escalated the situation. Faliszek had created a 26-minute video essay analyzing Karch's quote and criticizing his behavior, which Karch responded to by calling him an 'unsuccessful writer'.
