Sony has begun placing advisory stickers on PlayStation 5 consoles, warning players that physical games will soon be discontinued. The stickers, which have been spotted on the back of PS5 boxes, state that newly released games will only be available in digital format starting January 2028.
This move has sparked backlash within the gaming community, with many players expressing their disappointment and frustration on social media. The decision to cease production of physical game discs is seen as a significant shift towards an all-digital future.
Sony's Chief Financial Officer, Lin Tao, has confirmed the company's intent to pursue an all-digital future, stating that they are working to find ways to engage gamers in a digital ecosystem. Meanwhile, Xbox is reportedly working on ways to allow players to digitize their physical game libraries as it prepares for its next console, Project Helix.
