Xbox had its worst May on record for hardware unit sales, while PlayStation 5 sales dropped 58% compared to last year. The average price of new game hardware is up 14% year-over-year, driven by recent price increases.
The price hike has significantly impacted consumer spending, with PS5 spending down 43% and Xbox hardware spending up only 7% despite the price increase.
Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling hardware platform in May, with a US installed base of 5.9M units. Microsoft has announced further price increases for Xbox consoles, citing the 'current components crisis' in the consumer electronics industry.
