Marvel star Simu Liu took to X to reassure fans that the long‑rumored Sleeping Dogs movie is progressing, noting that a director and production company are already attached and that negotiations with Square Enix are underway.
The project, which stalled after Donnie Yen’s version was scrapped in early 2025, now has Liu slated to produce and portray the series’ protagonist Wei Shen. Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto, known for Nobody 2 and Killers, was confirmed as director last year, while Story Kitchen, a studio experienced in video‑game adaptations, is handling development. Liu also mentioned that a script draft was finished in October 2025, indicating that pre‑production work is solidly in place.
No release window has been set, and Liu remains busy with upcoming MCU duties in Avengers: Doomsday and efforts to revive Shang‑Chi 2. The next milestone hinges on finalizing the deal with Square Enix, after which the team hopes to move toward casting and filming.
