Saber Interactive has finally posted an AI disclaimer on its Steam store page following a highly visible disagreement between CEO Matt Karch and former writer Stella Sacco. Sacco alleged she was removed from a project in 2023 and replaced by ChatGPT, prompting Karch to claim he had never met her and that the company had only begun using AI for specific game elements, promising an update once the feature set was finalized.
Karch explained that the AI work appears in an experimental mode for the upcoming title Rideshare, requiring additional writers and programmers to integrate AI tools, and that the overall cost of those features exceeded what they would have spent without AI. He also suggested Sacco breached a confidentiality clause by speaking out prematurely, framing the whole episode as a publicity stunt. The newly added Steam disclaimer now flags AI‑generated dialogue and music, clearly labeling stations that use AI‑created tracks.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions over transparency in game development and raises questions about how studios communicate AI usage to a skeptical player base.
