Patrice Désilets, the veteran behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Assassin's Creed, took the stage at IGN Live 2026 to share the latest on his long‑awaited title 1666: Amsterdam. The most striking reveal was that the player will navigate the 1666 setting as a cat – a feline that is actually a man from 1999 – leaping through the dark streets of Amsterdam.
Désilets explained that the project’s development stretched over 15 years, involving stints at several studios before he reclaimed the rights to finish his “labor of love.” The original concept centered on playing as the devil, but after recent depictions of Satan, he pivoted to witches as a thematic stand‑in. The prologue jumps among three characters – modern‑day researcher Clio, her father Aaron in 1999, and witch Noa in 1666 – with roughly 5% of gameplay in the present, 15% in 1999, and the remainder in the 1666 era, which mirrors the 1999 timeline.
The demo’s 30‑minute prologue is already free on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the full PC release will follow later. Fans should keep an eye on upcoming IGN Live announcements for the final launch window and additional gameplay reveals.
