The director of the critically acclaimed Ori games has criticized Microsoft's Game Pass strategy. Thomas Mahler, CEO of Moon Studios, believes the subscription service could've been more successful if Xbox didn't incentivize studios to produce mediocre content.
Mahler argues that Xbox has not delivered enough hit games, citing the lack of a recent big Xbox game that was delightfully good. He also states that almost every single first-party studio in recent years has been floundering.

The Moon Studios CEO suggests that Microsoft needs its studios to deliver more hits that a broad audience would want to play, and that the company needs to understand what gamers want and what makes a good game.
