Nintendo announced it will ramp up production of the Switch 2 to 20 million units by March 2027, roughly a 20 percent increase over the 16.5 million it had projected for the fiscal year ending April 2027. The figure follows a recent report that the company sold 19.86 million Switch 2 consoles in the prior year, prompting analysts to note that Nintendo often under‑states its targets before exceeding them.
Industry commentator Serkan Toto told Bloomberg the strategy reflects a “no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later,” citing the just‑finished fiscal year as proof. The production boost coincides with a scheduled price hike: from September 1 2026 the US MSRP will rise $50 to $499.99, Europe will see a €30 increase to €499.99, and Canada’s price will jump $50 to $679.99. Japan’s hardware line will climb about ¥10,000, with the Switch 2 reaching ¥59,980.
The hardware move comes as Nintendo released its latest first‑party title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which VGC praised as a “brilliant, unique side‑scroller.” The combination of higher output and higher prices will shape the console’s market performance through 2027, and analysts will watch sales data closely after the price changes take effect.
