Mortal Kombat movie director Simon McQuoid has cast doubt on his return to the franchise. In an interview, McQuoid stated he wasn't sure about directing Mortal Kombat 3, citing the film's uncertain status.
The third movie's development has been slow, despite screenwriter Jeremy Slater confirming he had begun writing the script in 2025. The previous film, Mortal Kombat 2, underperformed at the box office, earning $129 million globally.
McQuoid has other projects in development, including a character study, and hasn't ruled out returning to the franchise but is focused on new stories. Mortal Kombat 3 remains without a release date.
