Veteran actor Ed Harris says he felt misled by the producers of the Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch, to the point where he considered walking away from his contract. Harris was told before signing that his Vietnam‑veteran character, Everett McKinney, would be one of four leads, but midway through season one he found his screen time minimal and his role “inconsequential.” He confronted the producers, who offered little reassurance, and grew especially angry when a scene in which McKinney sings at a bar was completely cut from the episode.
The actor described the experience as “frustrating,” noting that the removal of the song was the last straw that made him contemplate voiding his deal. Despite the tension, Harris remains contracted for two seasons, and Paramount says McKinney will receive “a little more” in season two, slated to begin filming in February 2027. Season one is currently streaming on Paramount+, giving fans a chance to see the disputed performance before it was edited out.
